Starting A New Blog

Welcome new blogger! Before you start hyperventilating with all of the new tasks to complete before you even type the first word of your first article, you need to remember one very important fact as we take this journey…

Every single blogger on the net has been in your exact same shoes at one point in time.

While they are established and great at their craft now…there was a point in time where Wordpress was literally a foreign language. We all get through it…and you will too. The good news…you are not doing it through trial and error like we did, and I am going to help you out with some resources.

If you haven’t already, you need to download Ramped Blogging (don’t worry…it’s free!) by filling out your name and email address below.

Ramped Blogging is a full blogging resource that is going to take you from conception all the way to a successful blog with traffic and dollars (or whatever other goal you may have). Luckily for you, blogging is not a secret art. What works in blogging works for 99.9% of blogs, so the information contained in Ramped Blogging will be a tremendous resource over the course of your blogging career.

Where do I start?

The question that plagues the minds of new bloggers. With all of these tasks to complete…where do I start?!

Step 1 – Choose a topic that you are going to blog on. While you might want to jump to the domain name straight off the bat, the domain name is going to be determined by your topic (unless you are blogging as part of your business). Refer to pages 7-10 in Ramped Blogging on how to choose a niche.

Step 2 – Buy a domain name through GoDaddy. GoDaddy has the cheapest and most reliable domain name service out there and I actually use them for all of the domains in my library. Refer to pages 11-13 in Ramped Blogging on how to choose and buy your domain name.

Step 3 – Buy a hosting package through Hostgator. A hosting package is where all of your files are hosted so people can see your blog. Hostgator is a great option for bloggers as it is incredibly cheap per month with great online and phone support.

Step 4 – Setting up your Wordpress blog. Luckily, Hostgator will actually do this for you! But…if you feel like jumping ahead, I have laid out the exact process you need to go through to setup Wordpress yourself. Just checkout pages 18-30 in Ramped Blogging for all setup, settings and plugins you will need for your Wordpress blog.

Step 5 – Get a shiny new theme for your Wordpress blog. A theme is what you see on the outside. This blog is actually a customized version of a WooTheme (Headlines). For most beginner bloggers (and a lot of experienced ones), WooThemes is a great option as it gives you a clean, custom look right off the bat. While you can use other themes like Thesis, WooThemes seems to fit the bill perfectly for those that have very little design or coding ability. They have plenty of different color combinations and looks to give your blog a first class look to go along with your content. You will find more resources for themes in Ramped Blogging on pages 36-44, but…remember…while there are a ton of free themes out there, you will only get the support and ease of use out of premium themes. It is better spend a little and get started off on the right foot then having to go back and fix past issues.

See…that wasn’t so hard…you have everything setup and ready to roll!

7 Week Ramped Blogging eCourse

As part of your Ramped Blogging download, you are also receiving a free 7 week eCourse delivered via email to help you along the way and compliment the content found in Ramped Blogging. I created the Ramped Blogging package with the goal of helping beginning and experienced bloggers. While you will be tempted to jump ahead, right now your main focus should be on getting everything setup correctly and generating content. As things start to grow with your blog, monetization and more advanced strategies will come into play. For now…let’s get to blogging!
