Like everything else in life it will be the focus and hard work that will indeed make your blog profitable.

Your point on diversification makes a lot of sense.

The warning was much needed for me! In the back of my head, I have several other blogs that I want to do. However, I’m doing any of them until Daily Shot Of Coffee is where I want it to be.

In the past, I diversified by having a whole bunch of blogs. Even if I’m making less money right, I can tell it’s going to be better, especially as I diversify into other aspects of monetizing on the coffee blog.

I just started my site after finishing the Ramped Reviews e-book (thanks again for the inspiration!). It’s a horror fiction review site and I’m currently just using Amazon affiliates since it works naturally with the theme and doesn’t inconvenience the reader any. But I’m at a loss as to what else to do once I start gaining traffic.

Do you wait for your readers to tell you what direction their interests are heading, or do you just keep trying new monetization strategies until one clicks?

I spend a small fortune every year on books for entertainment so my primary motivation is the “ramped reviews” model of trying to get free review materials, more-so than monetizing heavily.

Awesome to see you realized that! One mistake I’ve made was when I started bogging I jumped in right away to trying to make money (huge mistake) best thing as Robb said, focus on your content + readers first and then try to monetize it will work oh so much better.

I fall into the taking on too much trap all of the time. Best bet at that point is to really focus on what is important and leave the rest for another day. I have a tendency to throw everything on my shoulders at once!

It’s great that you post about this because I have been trying to take on too much at once and find myself not getting anywhere really.

I think my main concern as of right now should be to begin generating some traffic to my website. Once I build a base of readers then I can worry about trying to heavily monetize my website.

Thanks for the advice and I will make sure to keep the different avenues of income generation for when the time is right.
