Hi Robb,

this post just came in time. Have redesigned my site and started a forum including a post for every article to discuss on (in addition to comments).

Very nice idea with the kick-off give-away, I will keep that in mind. Maybe there is a chance to use this to push my blog as well.

I have been hearing nothing but nightmares out of the new version of VBulletin. IP.Board seemed to be much more stable in its release.

Competition is pretty stiff.

In the blog world, you are competiting against HUGE publications that are outputting content like crazy.

ex. Bikeradar.com

In the forum world, there are everything from worldwide gigantic forums to localized ones. Again…competition is pretty high.

ex. MTBR.com (millions over millions of visits per month)

What does this mean? The market is there so there is huge potential. You just have to market it correctly, carve out your piece of the pie and continue to grow. It takes more time, but the competition makes you better.

That can be applied to any big niche really.

Great start Robb and very clever (and targeted) giveaway to kick it off…

Couple of questions, just out of interest as I like biking, but to this extent, and thus, I’m not familiar with the “niche”… What’s the competition like with blogs? Other (big) blogs doing as great as your sites? What about forums? Any big ones you need to go against?

Good job man! I’m running a forum on my m1a rifles blog and am using the simplepress forum plugin.

I was looking to upgrade to vbulletin but invision power looks promising as well.

Did you look into vbulletin as well? If so, what was the deciding factor between the two?

Good job Robb! Wish i could build a forum for my blog as well! But you know, thsi blogging niche we are in has already lots of outlets for discussions (and twitter is more than enough to get busy with).

But anyways, really great post here! I especially liked the part where you keep it honest about the ads. I’ll try to use that technique as well (hopefully to lower the guards of people on ads).

Just out of topic, I’m particularly interested with your last line “good bye writers block for forever!”. Will email you about something.
